Inspired by Vincent van Gogh's painting, "Head with a Skeleton with Burning Cigarette"
This curious and slightly macabre painting by Vincent van Gogh is undated. It is believed to have been painted during the winter of 1885-86. During this time, Van Gogh was a student in Antwerp, Belgium at the royal academy of Fine Arts. He commented that academic training was "damned boring". It is thought that the painting was a kind of joke but also a critique of the conservative art of the time. He only lasted a few weeks at the Academy.
